Dyslexia Coaching

Dyslexia affects an estimated 10% of people worldwide. It shapes how the brain processes written language, but it does not reflect intelligence. Many students with dyslexia are bright, creative, and capable. They just need instruction that is built around how they actually learn, not how a standard classroom assumes they do.

Dyslexia Is More Than Just Reading

Most people associate dyslexia with slow reading or reversed letters, but it can affect students in ways that are far less obvious. Understanding the full picture is the first step to giving the right support.

  • Slow or tiring reading, especially complex material
  • Poor spelling despite genuine effort
  • Difficulty pronouncing long or unfamiliar words
  • Challenges expressing thoughts in spoken words
  • Poor short-term memory, especially under load
  • Chaotic or overwhelmed organization skills
  • Difficulty with open-ended questions
  • Anxiety, low self-esteem, or frustration around schoolwork

Dyslexia also varies significantly between individuals. One student may struggle with reading speed but have strong spelling. Another may avoid writing but thrive in verbal discussions. We get to know each student's specific profile before building a plan.

How We Approach Dyslexia Coaching

1

Understand the Individual First

Dyslexia does not look the same in every student. Before we teach anything, we listen. We identify what is actually hard for this student, what workarounds they have already developed, and what their strengths are. We build from there.

2

Adapt the Instruction, Not Just the Pace

We use visual material, concept maps, color-coded notes, and structured outlines to make learning concrete. Rather than expecting students to adapt to traditional methods that were not designed for them, we adapt the methods to fit the student.

3

Build Confidence Alongside Skills

Many students with dyslexia have spent years feeling behind or being misunderstood. We address both the academic gaps and the self-esteem that has often been worn down around them. Progress in skill and confidence tend to reinforce each other.

Dyslexia Also Comes With Strengths

Students with dyslexia often develop strong creative thinking and problem-solving skills as a result of having to find their own ways through challenges. Research documents enhanced communication abilities, sensitivity to others, and a capacity to think outside conventional approaches. Our coaching builds on those strengths, not just the areas of difficulty, so students leave with confidence in what they bring to the table.

Beyond working directly with students, we also offer 1:1 parent coaching, helping families build awareness of their child's profile and adapt their parenting and support style at home so progress continues between sessions.
