Other Neuro-Divergency Support

Neuro-divergency extends well beyond ADHD and autism. We support students with a wide range of profiles that affect how they learn, regulate, and engage with schoolwork. Our approach starts with understanding each student as an individual, not a diagnosis, and building an environment where they can actually make progress.

Every Profile Is Different

Two students with the same diagnosis can present completely differently in an academic setting. We take time to understand not just the label but the actual experience: what makes learning harder, what strategies the student has already tried, and where they have strengths we can build on. Coaching is adapted accordingly, session by session.

Profiles We Support

OCD (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder)

Students with OCD may spend excessive time on tasks due to checking compulsions, struggle to move on from perceived errors, or experience intrusive thoughts that disrupt focus. We work around these patterns with structured, low-pressure routines that reduce the friction between starting and completing academic work.

ODD (Oppositional Defiant Disorder)

ODD often shows up in academic settings as resistance to instructions, conflict with authority figures, or refusal to engage with assigned work. We lean on the strategies research shows actually work: a calm, steady tone rather than escalation, clear and consistent expectations, previewing transitions before they happen, and a high rate of genuine praise paired with predictable follow-through. Giving students real agency in how they approach tasks reduces the power struggles that typically trigger oppositional responses.

PDA Profile (Pathological Demand Avoidance)

PDA is a profile on the autism spectrum characterized by an extreme and anxiety-driven need to avoid demands and expectations. Students with a PDA profile often respond better to indirect, collaborative, and low-demand approaches rather than direct instruction. We adapt our sessions to offer choices, avoid commands, and frame learning as shared exploration rather than compliance.

Anxiety (Academic and Social)

Anxiety around school can manifest as avoidance, perfectionism, test freeze, or difficulty participating in class. We build confidence gradually through low-stakes practice, honest feedback, and consistent positive reinforcement so students can engage without the fear of failure driving the process.

Sensory Processing Differences

Some students are easily overwhelmed by sensory input in typical classroom environments, making it hard to concentrate, stay seated, or process information efficiently. We account for sensory preferences in how we structure sessions, including pacing, presentation format, and the physical setup of the learning environment where possible.

Executive Functioning Challenges (Non-ADHD)

Difficulties with planning, initiating, self-monitoring, and follow-through are not exclusive to ADHD. Students with a range of neurological profiles can experience these challenges. We teach practical systems for organization, time management, and task completion that are realistic and adaptable to how each student actually operates.

How We Approach These Profiles

1

Start With the Student, Not the Diagnosis

We listen before we teach. Understanding how a student experiences school, what has worked before, and what has not gives us more useful information than any label alone.

2

Build a Low-Pressure Environment

Many students with these profiles have already experienced repeated frustration or failure in academic settings. Creating a calm, consistent, and non-judgmental space is a prerequisite for progress, not a nice-to-have.

3

Celebrate Small Wins and Build Momentum

Progress looks different for every student. We break larger goals into digestible steps, acknowledge every increment of progress, and use that momentum to keep moving forward without overwhelming the student.

Beyond working directly with students, we also offer 1:1 parent coaching, helping families build awareness of their child's profile and adapt their parenting and support style at home so progress continues between sessions.
